Our scripture reference will be taking from: 2Kings 2:1-15 as we shall be looking at the account of Elijah and Elisha as pre-requisites for the double portion of God’s Spirit. We have 5 PRE-REQUISITES FOR A DOUBLE PORTION OF GOD’S SPIRIT and we shall be looking at each of the pre-requisites as the day unfolds.
There is a significant work of the Spirit going on right now among God’s people on the earth. God is preparing a people for Himself for the coming of His great & dreadful Day of the Lord. God is setting a measuring line upon His church and re-evaluating the spiritual life and work of His people. It is the hour of preparation for the most powerful end-time ministry of the Lord. The armies of the Lord is being recruited and trained for the last show-down with the armies of darkness.
Today, like never before, the church is in the midst of a universal struggle between the Kingdom of Light and the kingdom of darkness. But the responsibility for Satan’s defeat now rests with the church as she seeks through revelation and prayer to advance the Kingdom of God on the earth. The great battle between God’s Kingdom and Satan’s Kingdom will usher in a new heaven and new earth where only righteousness reigns. The battle is the Lord’s and the victory of God’s army is sure.
In the book of Revelation, the beast fought against the Lamb and his army, but the Lamb overcame. We must be adequately prepared for the battle so that the enemy will not sweep us off our feet. The times we are in are special times that call for us to be deliberate and be careful how we live our lives. God is speaking to us as never before in a special way. He is calling our attention to His divine purpose for this hour. It is no more business as usual.
Joel 2:1 says
“Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand.”
Psalm 50:5 says, “Gather my saints together unto me: those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”
God is at present setting a stage to change the course of the church and of our lives. ‘’The earnest expectation of the creature’’ of the earth is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God (Rom8:19). Such sons of God, the sons of the prophets, the firstfruit company of the righteous ones must be adequately prepared and must press on into the holiest of all. And upon such sons of the prophets shall be poured a great measure of the Spirit of God.
Joel 2:28, 30a says, “…I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions… 30 And I will show wonders in heaven and in earth…” What a glory! However, a people who will carry this great glory must be first measured and trained by the Holy Spirit for the great task ahead.
Rev. 11:1-2 says, “And there was given me a reed like unto a rod; the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. 2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles…”
May the Lord help us and give us the grace to pass His tests. May we be measured up to His desired standard. The scriptural passage before us today is of great interest and I trust that the good Lord will shine His light on it and grant us understanding.
